The Work of His Hands

Isaiah 64:8 NIV

Yet, O Lord, you are our Father.
We are the clay, you are the potter;
we are all the work of your hand.

The idea that we are God's handiwork is at the same time awesome, intimidating and almost unbelievable. When I think back to all of the bad things I have done or the bad things that people in this world do it makes me wonder where God's hand is in all of this.

But when I look back on all of the good I have done and that has been done in the world I know that there is no way we could have done all of those things on our own.

The question that begs to be answered is how does all of this coexist? How do we have so much good and bad being done at the same time? Aren't we all God's handiwork? Yes we are but He has also given us free choice. We are free to allow ourselves to be led by His love or to lead ourselves by our own desires. When we see people do enormous good in the world God is helping them whether they know it or not because at some basic level they have said yes to Him.

Let's decide today to say yes to Him and watch and see as our lives become those lives that bless everyone around us.

God we thank you for the privilege of being clay in your masterful hands. Please continue to shape us into pots and vases and containers that carry your light and love. Please shape our desires to be in line with Your loving will. Please help us to be those who pour out love rather than hate, to walk in the love of your truth. We choose You.

In Jesus' name. Amen
