21 Days of Listening

So we just did Five Minutes of Prayer for ten days. That was pretty amazing! But I have a question for you:

How much of those five minutes were spent with you talking?

50%?
60%?
99.9%?

If you are like me you probably spent more time talking than you did listening. Talking isn’t bad of course. God wants us to share with Him what is on our hearts. It is not because He doesn’t know but rather because He wants to have a relationship with us.

But relationships are a two way street. It’s hard to hear when God talks back if we keep running our mouths right?

Well, here is my new challenge. Let’s build on what we have started with the 5 minutes of prayer and add on 5 minutes of listening. Of course you can do more but let’s try to do at least five minutes of each. The total time commitment is 10 minutes. Easy right?

Here are the rules:

1.      Pray any way that you like for at least 5 minutes.
2.      Listen in silence for at least 5 minutes after you pray.

That’s it.

You might be wondering what you should be listening for. Well, we will get into that along the way. Often times those random sparks of inspiration, fleeting thoughts, or even visions and dreams are from God. Sometimes they aren’t. We’ll figure out together how to tell the difference. Here is what we will focus on each week.

Week 1: Quieting the mind
Week 2: Discerning what is from God and what is not
Week 3: Acting on God’s instructions

We will discuss this daily in the ACWG Facebook group. It will also be helpful to keep a journal of everything that runs through your mind so you can go back and reflect on it later.

I believe that if you spend 21 days LISTENING to God after you pray that God will have many wonderful things to say to you that very well may change your life.

Are you up to the challenge?

The challenge begins on Wednesday, January 25th.
