Ask God First

Then the king said to me, "What are you requesting?" So I prayed to the God of heaven. - Nehemiah 2:4 ESV

When the king of Persia asked Nehemiah what he wanted that would alleviate his sadness over the ruin of Jerusalem he didn't start listing demands. He immediately prayed.

Often times we don't know what would really meet our needs or make us happy. When we are experiencing tough times it is tempting to focus more on the pain than on the cure.

But there always comes this moment of breakthrough when we are presented with an opportunity from God to change our reality. In this moment, before you act on your own invite God into the room. Quickly pray to Him and ask Him what you need, what is the best way to handle this opportunity.
This momentary pause will realign your heart and mind and fix it on God rather than yourself. From a God centered position we are better equipped to do His will.
