God, the Church and the World

Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves. A cord of three strands is not quickly broken. Ecclesiastes 4:12

There are many people in the church who feel called to reach out to people in “the world”. Some feel called to “Hollywood”, others to politics, the mission field, the poor and the sick. What starts as a seed of love can at times grow bitter roots when our desire to connect is met with fear and rejection.

We have to remember that God loves relationship. He loves it when we come together in unity with others but He always wants to be involved so that He can spread His love through us.

God is love.

When we reach out to others with God’s love in our heart it is no longer two worlds coming together, but rather it is us, the other person and God weaving together like a cord of three strands that is not quickly broken. With God picket signs of protest become miraculous signs and wonders. Exclusion and hatred become invitations to break bread. Closed fists open into hands that touch with love and healing power.

God please help us to reach out to the world with your loving heart. Help us to connect with others through your love and grace so that we might share your love but also learn to receive what You want to give us through those that we meet. Help us to see You in them and to receive them as you received those in your time on this earth. Everyone is looking for love; help us to be that shining light on the hill that directs their steps toward the greatest love of all.

In Jesus’ name,

Amen.
