Calling A Spade A Spade

“Son of man, I have made you a watchman for the people of Israel; so hear the word I speak and give them warning from me. When I say to the wicked, ‘You wicked person, you will surely die,’ and you do not speak out to dissuade them from their ways, that wicked person will die for their sin, and I will hold you accountable for their blood. But if you do warn the wicked person to turn from their ways and they do not do so, they will die for their sin, though you yourself will be saved. – Ezekiel 33:7-9

Today’s Reading: Ezekiel 33-34; 1 Peter 5

Dear God,

What is the difference between speaking the truth and judging others? What should we do when we know that something is wrong, that someone is representing something false as if it were truth but we cannot prove it?

We're Still Here... Whew!!

Dear God,

Well what do you know… May 21st came and went and we are still here.

Who’d a thunk it?

I know that Jesus himself said that no one would know the day or time except for you so I wasn’t trippin on May 21st being the last day. After all, if someone is saying that they know when the last day will come then it is pretty much a guarantee that that day will not be the one.

On Lebron and Second Chances

Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins. Offer hospitality to one another without grumbling. Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms. If anyone speaks, they should do so as one who speaks the very words of God… 1 Peter 8-11

Today’s Reading: Ezekiel 30-32; 1 Peter 4

I was talking to a friend of mine the other day about basketball and we started talking about Lebron James.

If Women Only Knew...

Wives, in the same way submit yourselves to your own husbands so that, if any of them do not believe the word, they may be won over without words by the behavior of their wives, when they see the purity and reverence of your lives. 1 Peter 3:1-2

Today’s Reading: Ezekiel 27-29; 1 Peter 3

If women only knew even a little bit of the power they had with the men in their lives...

Sorry Ezekiel... That Wasn't Cool

The word of the LORD came to me: “Son of man, with one blow I am about to take away from you the delight of your eyes. Yet do not lament or weep or shed any tears.  Groan quietly; do not mourn for the dead. Keep your turban fastened and your sandals on your feet; do not cover your mustache and beard or eat the customary food of mourners.”
So I spoke to the people in the morning, and in the evening my wife died. The next morning I did as I had been commanded. Ezekiel 24:15-18

Today’s Reading: Ezekiel 24-26; 1 Peter 2

What up Ezekiel?

So I gotta say… this isn’t cool man. Of all the prophets so far you seem to have gotten it the worst

Faith is a Tricky Thing

Though you have not seen him, you love him; and even though you do not see him now, you believe in him and are filled with inexpressible and glorious joy, for you are receiving the end result of your faith, the salvation of your souls. 1 Peter 1: 8-9

Today’s Reading: Ezekiel 22-23; 1 Peter 1

Faith is a fascinating thing to me. I have talked to many people about what I believe and when I explain the whole death and resurrection thing to folks I can see that glazed look pass over their eyes. After all, it is a pretty fantastic tale.

But that got me thinking. I wonder if faith in Jesus is harder for those of us who never saw Him in the flesh.

What Are We Celebrating?

You have heard that it was said, "An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth". But I say to you, do not resist an evildoer. If anyone strikes you on the right cheek, turn to him the other also. –Jesus speaking in the Sermon on the Mount, Matthew 5:38-39

When I heard the news about bin Laden an avalanche of thoughts overwhelmed me.

The Lone Ranger

Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective. – James 5:16

Today’s Reading: Ezekiel 20-21; James 5

For the longest time I was determined that the best way to find God was to find Him by myself.
