Faith Exists... Literally.

Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. Hebrews 11:1

Today’s Reading: Ezekiel 1-2; Hebrews 11:1-19

Several years ago there was this whole craze around “The Secret”. The basic idea was that there was this secret that successful people knew that no one else knew. It was that faith through positive thinking could manifest things in the real world.

After watching it I remember thinking that The Secret was just Christian faith without Christ. They were saying things that I have heard preached my entire life. This wasn’t a secret at all! All they had done was taken away things like forgiveness, being as good as you can be, living a life of love, Jesus, and consequences for our actions. They stripped away the morality and reduced it to a universal law.

This wasn’t a secret at all. It was clearly written in the most widely published book of all time!

Since then I have thought a lot about this passage. Faith is the SUBSTANCE of things hoped for, the EVIDENCE of things unseen. And you know what; I have to give it up to The Secret for one thing. That video encouraged me to take a second, more literal look at the verse.

What if faith really is a substance, a rule that governs the universe like gravity? What if faith really is a substance that some day we can measure? What if we do attract things to us through faith, good or bad? In the parable of the talents Jesus said:

‘For to everyone who has, more will be given, and he will have abundance; but from him who does not have, even what he has will be taken away. – Matthew 25:29

Could this be a result of this law of faith? I think it is. The more you have, the more you believe you can have and the more you will receive.

So how do you get on the good side of faith? What if you don’t have anything but lint in your pockets? Is there any hope for you?

Yes there is.

You have to take that first leap of faith. Some people are privilege enough to live on the backs of leaps taken by previous generations. But most of us have to start from scratch. We have to be the faith pioneers of our families so that we can start a legacy of having rather than having not.

Are you ready to take that leap? Are you ready to turn positive thinking into action to accomplish the goals that God put in your heart?

    Believe. Leap! And know.

Knowing IS half the battle. :-)
